Conquer Your Everest! |
RE-START YOUR BUSINESS THIS YEAR!
“Why re-start my business?” you ask. Why not? “How I re-start my
business, you wonder. Let’s brainstorm!
Look at your attitude. Has your business become old hat? Are you tired
of doing the same old thing? Perhaps it’s time for ongoing quality
improvement. Get with a trainer, coach or mentor and re-think your
day-to-day operations, thinking and behavior.
Are there changes that you could make with equipment to get the job done
faster and more effectively? New technology is always surfacing to
shorten the time to do a task or to connect us with colleagues and
customers at a moment’s notice. It may be time to learn that new
computer program to open up your business availability, up-date
book-keeping, manage data or present your services. It’s a great time to
learn “PowerPoint”! Perhaps you could apply for a grant or visit with
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) to research improvements
specific to your business.
Personnel and Human Resources practices can and should be reviewed
yearly. Is it time to add new staff, or reassign tasks? If you work in a
sole proprietorship or in another solo business structure, give yourself
a yearly evaluation. Ask a colleague in the same business to meet with
you and review your efforts, improvement and your growing edge.
The type of business entity you are in at present can be assessed, to
ensure the best tax advantages. If you have been operating as a sole
proprietorship there may be definite tax and liability advantages that
are available with the formation of a limited liability entity.
As you re-design your business, be sure to evaluate how you are
integrating work, self, family, and community involvement. Toady’s
leaders must balance work and family life to remain competitive, boost
productivity and reduce absenteeism or attrition of employees. Good luck
with your business!
