Conquer Your Everest! |
CELEBRATE FREEDOM EVERY DAY!
The founding of our country was based on the desire for freedom. This
great desire was so important that our first citizens gave
their very lives to establish freedom’s certainty.
Many of us have established careers (corporate, public, or private)
based on the compelling desire to be free: free to earn our own money,
free to pursue our dreams, free to grow, free to be a person. I’d like
to comment on some applications of the notion of freedom as it applies
to our work.
Each of us has the freedom to change some aspect of our work every day.
When we (or our tasks) become stale, we have the freedom (indeed, the
responsibility) to learn something new, ask for a challenge, seek a new
position or pursue a whole new career. At the very least, we are free to
begin each day anew; free to choose integrity, courtesy, and patience in
our day’s work. Make no mistake; this is not about being “nice”, this is
about growing your customer base, increasing revenue, obtaining that
raise, earning that promotion!
Remember your customers are also free. Free to change their service
provider. They are free to shop for better service, price, timeliness,
and courtesy. This is a good time to review some basic service concepts
(don’t hesitate to pay for professional Training in Customer Service):
* The client is free to choose. Offer them that choice explaining all
the benefits you have to offer them and it is likely they will choose
your company.
* When the phone rings for the 100th time that morning, think
“service” and warmly greet them as if your livelihood depends on keeping
them happy- it does!
* Call your customers by name and personalize your service by indicating
that you know and care about their needs.
* If you can’t answer a customer’s question refer them to someone who
can. Being willing to refer to another company sometimes is a service
issue. Customers will pay you back with loyalty and more referrals.
Let us remember our moral obligation to respect and preserve freedom for
ourselves, our employees and our customers.
